Thought you would be intersted to know that many of you could be equally good.

At a glittering awards ceremony at the Royal Society in London, legendary actress and Age UK Ambassador, June Whitfield, awarded Keith Paterson, 80 from Suffolk and Brenda O'Mulloy, 83 from Slough, the title of Age UK Joint Internet Champions for 2012. Keith and Brenda were two of four finalists who attended the awards ceremony and beat off stiff competition from hundreds of applicants to be awarded the title. Keith impressed the judges with his work to help people in later life get online by acting as an internet guru through his website. Brenda's story was one that really resonated with the judges, having lost her husband she was left feeling lonely and isolated with her daughter living 200 miles away. Brenda's son bought her a laptop and helped her learn to use it. Now, she uses facebook, Skype, MSN and saves money by comparing prices online.

So keep up the good work everyone.

Corstorphine Club

Today is the start of our 6th Club at Wetherspoons (The White Lady) in Corstophine. They are kindly sponsoring us and we shall be there every Monday from 2pm - 4pm.

This afternoon should be exciting as a number of people have expressed interest. The local MP, Colin Keir will be launching us on our way.

All our Clubs restart during the week beginning 9th January 2012.
Do you know that members can attend any of our Clubs with a membership card? If you cannot manage the day of your usual Club just call in at another one. You can even visit 2 Clubs in the one week.

We have been away from Merseyside for a number of years but I longed to see all the changes that had taken place in the village, so I spent a happy hour wandering around on Google Maps.

If you fancy trying it, type your postcode into Google then click on Maps in the top menu bar.
You then take the little yellow man (top left of map) and drag him to the spot marked by the pink arrow.
Travel around from there and see what you find.

An easier way is to view our Google Earth tutorial. This is in the members' area under Experts.

I thought that I would tell you of the interesting time I had when attempting to find a chat room to add to our site. As with a lot of free gadgets, people add rubbish just to see how they work. I therefore had quite an effort finding something genuine to try out before adding one for us to use. Eventually on my second try at clicking the list provided, I saw one called Scripture Journal.

It so happened that 2 people were on. One from Indiana and one from New Jersey. We had a lovely chat. They told me that as well as attending a church where they sit in a pew, they also attend one online during the week. If you don't find it easy to get to church, the Methodist Church in U.K. hold regular services and virtual coffee breaks. You could also try a church somewhere abroad.

I will leave you to practice googling for a church, but if you get stuck do ask about it.
